NOAA forecasts below-normal 2026 Atlantic hurricane season
The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season is projected to be below average, according to the latest outlook from NOAA. Forecasters have increased the probability of a below-normal season to 75%, up from 55% earlier this year.
NOAA expects between seven and 13 named storms, with two to six potentially becoming hurricanes. Of those, zero to two could reach major hurricane strength. This is lower than the typical average of 14 named storms, seven hurricanes, and three major hurricanes.
Travelers to Central Florida, including guests at Walt Disney World, are advised to remain vigilant as the season approaches its peak in early September. Even in a below-average season, tropical systems can cause heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential temporary theme park closures.
