NOAA forecasts calm geomagnetic conditions for late October 2026

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued space weather forecasts indicating relatively calm geomagnetic conditions for October 23 and 24, 2026.

For Friday, October 23, the planetary geomagnetic index (Kp) is expected to range between 1.00 and 2.33. This follows a period of increased activity on October 22, where a high-speed solar wind stream from a coronal hole caused a brief G1-category minor geomagnetic storm with a Kp value of 4.67.

On Saturday, October 24, geomagnetic intensity is predicted to remain low, with Kp values fluctuating between 1.67 and 2.67. The highest intensity is expected during the early hours of the day, with a gradual decrease throughout the afternoon and evening. These values remain well below the Kp 5 threshold required to trigger a G1-category geomagnetic storm.
