NOAA forecasts no geomagnetic storm for October 18, 2026
Data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) indicate that no geomagnetic storm is forecast for Sunday, October 18, 2026. The Kp-index is expected to remain at a low level, specifically around 1.7, signifying minimal geomagnetic activity.
Despite the calm geomagnetic outlook, there remains a possibility of solar flares. There is a 25% probability of R1-R2 category radio disturbances and a 10% chance of more significant R3-R5 category events. Additionally, there is a 10% chance of an S1 level or higher solar radiation storm. Experts continue to monitor solar activity, including the frequency and strength of solar flares and the speed of solar wind, as these conditions can change rapidly.
