Noh theater’s ‘Wakon XII’ special performance showcases waki role in Kobe

On July 18, 2026, a special Noh production titled “Wakon XII – Watching the Waki” will be staged at the Minato Shrine Noh hall in Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan.

The program focuses on the waki (supporting) role and brings together three schools—Shitakake Hōsei‑ryū, Fukō‑ryū and Takayasu‑ryū. It features Living National Treasure Kōsai Hōsē (宝生欣哉), Fukō Chitō and Ari‑Matsuri Ryoichi, who will each present the same pieces for direct comparison.

The three styles are complemented by talk sessions, solo chanting, experimental demonstrations and the Noh play “Chōryō”.

Ticket prices range from ¥4,000 to ¥12,000, with a ¥1,000 discount on S‑class seats available through the Confetti ticket platform.
