Noida International Airport faces waterlogging after heavy rain
Noida International Airport in Jewar experienced temporary waterlogging on August 11 following intense rainfall. Videos circulating on social media showed water accumulating in the parking area and on the passage connecting the terminal to the airport entrance.
Airport authorities responded by stating that the water was cleared within approximately 30 minutes. Officials emphasized that the incident did not disrupt flight operations or passenger movement, and that the situation returned to normal quickly. The management is reportedly reviewing the drainage system to prevent future occurrences.
The incident has sparked political criticism. Opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, have questioned the quality of the infrastructure and alleged corruption, noting that the airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2026 and began commercial operations in June 2026. The airport is a major infrastructure project developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, with construction handled by Tata Projects.
