Italian regions expand health facilities and restore 118 emergency services

In Campania and Benevento regional health authorities have opened or upgraded a network of community health facilities using PNRR funds. Benevento inaugurated 11 Community Houses, 4 Community Hospitals and 5 Territorial Operational Centers, while Campania allocated about €23 million to equip 136 active Community Houses with diagnostic and IT equipment.

The municipality of Nola signed a contract that brings back the territorial emergency 118 service and establishes a new district hospital pharmacy in a renovated municipal building, strengthening emergency and pharmaceutical care for the local population.

In Abruzzo, the ASL of Teramo adopted a new corporate act that restructures services and reinstates the General Surgery unit at the Sant’Omero hospital. The change has sparked political debate over chronic staff shortages, waiting lists and the need for real resources to support peripheral health presences.
