Nolan Wells family calls for federal investigation into teen's death

The family of 18-year-old Nolan Wells, supported by attorney Ben Crump, Reverend Al Sharpton, and members of the Congressional Black Caucus, is calling for a federal investigation into the circumstances surrounding Wells’ death. During the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Atlanta, advocates urged the FBI and the U.S. Attorney General to conduct an independent review of the case.

Wells was reported missing following a July 4 boating trip to Horn Island, and his body was recovered from the water on July 6. His parents, Christine and Elmore Wonsley, have expressed deep skepticism regarding the accounts provided by the companions who were with him. They have highlighted inconsistencies, including difficulties in retrieving Wells’ car keys and conflicting statements from those present.

Legal analysts have noted the unusual nature of the traveling companions returning to the site of the incident to conduct their own investigation while no charges have been filed. Meanwhile, some of the individuals involved have sought public support through crowdfunding and conservative media platforms to defend their actions and shape the public narrative.
