Nolan Wells death investigation sparks legal disputes and DOJ demands
Legal and public disputes are intensifying regarding the death of Nolan Wells, a Mississippi teenager who disappeared during a Fourth of July outing on Horn Island. While a Mississippi grand jury previously concluded the death was consistent with accidental drowning and found no evidence of criminal conduct, the case remains highly contentious.
Attorney Ben Crump and forensic investigator Andrew Garrett recently presented findings suggesting that data had been deleted from Wells’ cellphone between the time he went missing and when his family received the device. In response, attorneys representing Wells’ friends—Jax Pitalo, Warren Hudson, and Morgan Seymour—have announced plans to sue Crump for defamation, denying they had access to the phone or involvement in any data deletion.
The nonprofit search-and-rescue group United Cajun Navy has also weighed in, maintaining that evidence supports an accidental drowning. The organization has called on the Department of Justice to investigate Crump, accusing him of inciting terrorism through his involvement in the case.
