Nolan Wells Death Investigation Centers on Distress Call Audio

Nolan Wells, a 21‑year‑old, disappeared after a Fourth of July outing on a barrier island off the Mississippi coast. His friends made a distress call to Sea Tow, saying their bilge pump had failed and the boat was sinking. The call was recorded and released by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. After a brief search, Wells' body was recovered two days later.

Wells' family hired audio engineer Jeanette Brantley to examine the recording. Brantley used traditional editing techniques—not AI—to isolate background voices she says contain suspicious remarks, including references to Wells by name. Attorney Ben Crump suggested the audio could clarify the timeline of events, while lawyer Russell Latino described the enhanced audio as a "doctored transcript" and a psychological tactic against the friends. The case has sparked public debate and harassment of the family, and investigators have not yet contacted Brantley regarding her findings.
