Bernice King supports family of Nolan Wells following mysterious death
Dr. Bernice King, daughter of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., has expressed support for the family of Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old student-athlete from Mississippi who died under unexplained circumstances. Wells was found dead on July 6, following a disappearance during a July 4 outing to Horn Island.
Dr. King drew parallels between Wells’ death and the 1969 passing of her uncle, Reverend A. D. King. She noted that both individuals were strong swimmers and exhibited similar physical indicators, such as head bruising and an absence of water in their lungs, leaving the cause and manner of death undetermined. Dr. King called for a thorough and transparent investigation to provide the Wells family with the answers they deserve.
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice has stated there is no evidence of foul play, a conclusion supported by a Mississippi grand jury. However, Wells’ mother, Christine Wells Wonsley, continues to contest the drowning ruling, citing autopsy reports that she claims lack physical evidence of drowning. Protests demanding further investigation have occurred in several U.S. locations, including Atlanta and Prairie View.
