Nordic cooperation intensifies amid security and industrial shifts
Nordic cooperation is experiencing a period of significant deepening and integration, driven largely by the security environment and pressure from Russia. During the Nordic Council session in Helsinki, security and defense policy—topics previously considered taboo—have become central themes. While member governments previously declined recommendations to establish a Nordic defense commission, parliamentary members have expressed a desire for deeper cooperation in these sectors.
In addition to political and security integration, the industrial sector is pushing for closer ties. Following the Helsinki session, the industrial alliance Nordic Compass is scheduled to hold its first summit in Gothenburg on November 4. This movement toward unity is also being reinforced by geopolitical factors, including shifts in regional dynamics involving Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
