Nordic electric vehicle market reaches record adoption levels

Electric vehicle adoption is reaching record levels across the Nordic region. In September, Norway, Denmark, and Finland all set new records for electric vehicle market shares, with Norway leading at 98.8 percent. Denmark followed at 88.8 percent, and Finland reached 62.1 percent. Sweden reported a market share of 49.4 percent.

In Sweden, the transition is particularly strong in the corporate sector. Data from Volkswagen Finans Sverige shows that electric vehicles accounted for 61 percent of financed company cars during the first nine months of the year, up from 56 percent the previous year. When including plug-in hybrids, rechargeable vehicles represented 88 percent of corporate financing, leaving minimal room for petrol and diesel models.

Private consumers in Sweden are also shifting toward electrification. Nearly half of all new cars financed through leasing or loans by private individuals were fully electric (48 percent) during the first nine months of the year, compared to 40 percent in the previous period. The rise in private leasing, which grew by 28 percent, is cited as a key driver for this trend.

Reflecting on the region's history, Norway's Technical Museum in Oslo has added the country's first Nissan Leaf to its collection, marking a milestone in the nation's transition to electric mobility.
