Nordkirchen police investigate multiple fraud and impersonation attempts
Police in Nordkirchen and the Coesfeld district are investigating multiple fraud attempts targeting local residents. In one instance, scammers used information from a newspaper obituary to contact a woman in Selm, falsely claiming her son had been in an accident and required a large sum of money to avoid legal consequences. The victim successfully identified the scam by contacting her son directly.
Additionally, authorities are tracking a series of calls made to at least 15 seniors by an individual posing as a detective named ‘Mr. Schröder’. The caller reported neighborhood crimes to gain information about the victims' assets and attempted to persuade them to hand over cash or jewelry. In all known cases, the victims recognized the deception and reported it to the police, resulting in no financial losses. The police advise citizens to hang up immediately if they suspect a scam and to verify any official requests by calling emergency services.
