Noreen Niazi, sister of Imran Khan, hospitalized after heart distress in jail

Noreen Niazi, the sister of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been transferred from Kot Lakhpat Jail to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology in Lahore following reports of heart-related discomfort. Upon arrival at the hospital, she reportedly exhibited a rapid heartbeat, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, and shortness of breath. Medical staff are conducting blood tests and monitoring her ECG to determine if she suffered a heart attack.

Niazi and her sister, Uzma Khan, have been detained under the Maintenance of Public Order Act since September 21. The Punjab government recently extended their detention by 30 days. Her lawyer, Rana Mudassar Umar, criticized the authorities, alleging that Niazi is being held illegally and that her family was not informed of her medical emergency or hospital transfer.

In response to the hospitalization, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party expressed grave concern over the health of the 70-year-old detainee. PTI leaders have called for immediate medical supervision by cardiologists and criticized the treatment of women in detention, labeling the situation a violation of constitutional rights. Meanwhile, government advisor Rana Sanaullah stated that the sisters were detained to prevent them from inciting unrest in Islamabad.
