Norte Grande governors meet with national officials over energy and infrastructure

Governors from the Norte Grande region met in Misiones to coordinate a unified agenda with the national government, represented by Chief of Cabinet Diego Santilli. A primary focus of the summit was the energy crisis, specifically the lack of adequate gas infrastructure in northern provinces like Misiones, which governors warn threatens industrial productivity, exports, and employment.

To address regional disparities, governors are advocating for a 'warm zone' energy tariff regime to compensate for high electricity consumption during extreme temperatures, similar to existing benefits for 'cold zones.' Santilli indicated that the government is discussing such a mechanism as a potential political compromise to facilitate the reduction of natural gas subsidies in 94 cities within the Buenos Aires province.

Additionally, the assembly addressed infrastructure needs, including the demand for improved road connectivity and the implementation of a Federal Energy Strategy. The meeting also served as a platform to discuss the impacts of the 'El Niño' phenomenon and the necessity of strengthening regional prevention and response tools.
