North Carolina Coast Issues Rip Current Warning for June 27

The National Weather Service office in Newport/Morehead City issued a Beach Hazards Statement warning of dangerous rip currents along North Carolina’s coast from Cape Hatteras to Surf City. The advisory, effective from 8 AM to 8 PM EDT on Saturday, June 27, notes the highest risk around midday, coinciding with low tide at approximately 12:00 PM. Swimmers are advised to stay near lifeguards, swim parallel to shore if caught, and call for help if needed.

A separate Special Weather Statement reported a strong thunderstorm near Phillips Crossroads, southeast of Kinston, with wind gusts up to 40 mph and a possible landspout. The storm was moving northeast at about 15 mph and could cause minor wind‑related damage.
