North Carolina faces severe storms and extreme heat

Severe weather and extreme heat have impacted various regions across North Carolina. In Greensboro, powerful storms on Friday, September 4, caused wind gusts up to 60 mph and significant hail, leaving over 25,000 customers without electricity. The storms also resulted in 77 reports of fallen trees and damage to public facilities, including playgrounds and pedestrian bridges.

In Wake County, specifically the Wendell Falls area, strong storms brought high winds and heavy rain, damaging property and knocking out power for thousands. Residents reported significant wind damage to homes and local businesses.

Simultaneously, the Triangle region, including Raleigh and Durham, has faced extreme heat with heat indices reaching up to 109°F. The National Weather Service has maintained heat advisories for these areas. Meteorologists warn that additional severe storms and damaging wind gusts may continue to affect western and central North Carolina, including the Charlotte and Asheville areas, through Saturday evening.
