North Carolina law enforcement conducts major drug and weapons bust
A multi-agency law enforcement operation in North Carolina’s Triad region resulted in approximately 104 arrests and the seizure of numerous illegal items. The investigation, which spanned from June 1 to September 30, covered several localities including Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point.
Led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in coordination with local, state, and federal agencies, the operation yielded the seizure of 163 firearms and over 37 kilograms of illegal drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl. Authorities also recovered 102 devices known as ‘switches,’ which are used to convert semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic firearms.
Additionally, investigators utilized a system to generate 222 leads by linking shell casings to specific firearms and crime scenes, aiding in the connection of various shootings. Greensboro Police Chief Kamran Afzal noted that the operation aims to prevent future shootings by removing these weapons and substances from the streets.
