President Tufan Erhürman Faces Both Praise and Criticism Over Cyprus Negotiation Plans

TDP leader Zeki Çeler said President Tufan Erhürman's approach to the Cyprus settlement is progressing on a solid basis, emphasizing cooperation with Turkey and calling for an inclusive, equality‑based political framework. Çeler warned against divisive rhetoric from other parties and highlighted the need to address unequal rights for Turkish‑Cypriot citizens, including those of mixed heritage and Turkish‑origin residents.

Former parliament speaker Zorlu Töre, speaking on KIBRIS TV, demanded that Erhürman give a clear public guarantee that no territory such as Maraş, Güzelyurt or Karpaz will be ceded. Töre dismissed recent media reports of renewed negotiations as unfounded, underscored the absence of a viable solution platform, and reiterated Turkey’s guarantor role and the importance of the Turkish military presence on the island.
