North Dakota woman charged with killing two children
A 22-year-old North Dakota woman, Kailey Erhart, is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly killing two of her children and attempting to kill a third during a violent incident in Mandan.
According to the Mandan Police Department, the attack occurred on the evening of August 6. Authorities stated that Erhart allegedly brandished a gun at the children's father and grandmother before chasing them from the home. Police reports indicate that a 3-year-old and a 5-month-old died from stab wounds to the neck, while a 1-year-old survived after undergoing surgery for similar injuries.
Erhart faces several charges, including two counts of murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, terrorizing, and child abuse. During her initial court appearance, District Judge Marina Spahr set her bond at $3 million cash, citing the "extreme violence in these alleged charges and the threat to the community." A no-contact order has been issued to prevent Erhart from contacting the surviving victims or family members.
