North Georgia faces extreme heat and severe storm risks

North and Central Georgia are facing extreme heat and potential severe weather leading into the Labor Day weekend. Heat index values are expected to reach triple digits, with some areas potentially feeling as hot as 106 degrees.

A heat advisory is in effect for much of the region outside the mountains. In addition to the high temperatures, the Storm Prediction Center has placed North Georgia under a marginal risk for severe storms, with the primary threats being damaging winds and possible hail.

Temperatures are expected to remain high through Saturday, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. However, a weak backdoor cold front is forecasted to move through the area, bringing cooler air and lower humidity by Labor Day Monday.
