North Georgia faces flash flood warnings and severe storms

Heavy rain and thunderstorms have triggered flash flood warnings across North Georgia, specifically affecting Murray, Gilmer, and Gordon counties. Near Carters Lake, some areas recorded over an inch of rain within a two-hour period, raising concerns for flooding along U.S. Route 411 and surrounding roadways.

Weather forecasts indicate that storms may become widespread during the late morning and early afternoon, with a possibility of isolated strong storms under a Level 1 severe weather risk.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, the National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for north and central Georgia. Isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected, with some potentially becoming strong or severe. Primary hazards include damaging winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall across numerous counties.
