North Ipswich Reserve begins $40 million grandstand construction

Construction has begun on a $40 million Western Grandstand at North Ipswich Reserve, a project intended to transform the venue into a national-standard sport and entertainment precinct. The two-storey facility is being delivered by contractor Buildcorp and designed by Blight Rayner, with completion scheduled for late 2027 to prepare for the 2028 rugby league season.

The grandstand will feature seating for 2,199 spectators, coaches’ boxes, four modern changerooms, media facilities, and function spaces for up to 250 guests. Additional upgrades include a new public plaza, improved amenities, a canteen, landscaping, and an expanded carpark.

Funding for the project is provided through a tripartite model: $20 million from the Australian Government, $10 million from the Queensland Government, and $10 million from the Ipswich City Council. The development is viewed as a key step toward the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the long-term goal of creating a 12,000-capacity rectangular stadium.
