Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Pyongyang on June 8, his first trip to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in seven years. During high‑level talks at the Kumsusan Guesthouse, Xi pledged deeper political trust, broader economic cooperation and closer strategic coordination, outlining proposals to boost party exchanges, law‑enforcement and military collaboration, and to expand trade, agriculture, science, technology and health ties.

In a separate development, North Korean leader Kim Jong‑un sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirming the two countries’ alliance. Kim expressed “unconditional support” for Russia’s policies amid the ongoing war in Ukraine and highlighted a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty signed in June 2024, describing it as a new chapter in their historic friendship.
