North Macedonia deputy demands report on milk quality scandal

Sanja Llukarevska, a deputy from the LSDM, has called for the immediate publication of a report regarding a milk and meat quality scandal. During a parliamentary session, she questioned the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management, Borçe Serafimovski, regarding the lack of transparency and accountability concerning food safety inspections.

The investigation involved 91 samples of milk, dairy, and dried meat products from both domestic and imported sources. Discrepancies were found between declared ingredients and actual quality; for instance, some products contained only 1% milk fat instead of the declared 20%, along with high levels of palm oil.

Oliver Milanov, Director of the Food and Veterinary Agency (AHV), previously indicated that the names of companies involved in these manipulations would be released, but the report remains unreleased. Llukarevska noted that the agency has hesitated to name specific firms due to fears of legal action and lawsuits.
