North Macedonia food safety and quality concerns

Overview

In North Macedonia, parliamentary scrutiny has intensified following a food quality scandal involving milk and meat products. Deputy Sanja Llukarevska has demanded the immediate publication of an investigation report after testing revealed significant discrepancies in food composition.

Findings from 91 samples showed that some products contained high levels of palm oil and only 1% milk fat despite declaring 20%. While the Director of the Food and Veterinary Agency, Oliver Milanov, previously suggested that the names of the companies involved would be disclosed, the report has not yet been released. Llukarevska noted that the agency appears to be hesitating to name specific firms due to potential legal action and lawsuits.
