North Macedonia accelerates renewable energy and solar production
North Macedonia is experiencing a significant surge in renewable energy production. According to data from Ember, solar energy accounted for approximately 26.1% of the country's total annual electricity consumption in 2025, making it a regional leader in solar capacity compared to neighbors like Albania and Serbia.
The government is working toward its 2030 energy goals, aiming for renewables to cover 31.6% of gross final energy consumption. This strategy includes expanding photovoltaic and wind energy, modernizing grids, and improving energy storage.
In domestic social policy, the Pensioner Party in North Macedonia is advocating for a legal link between the minimum pension and the minimum wage, proposing that the lowest pension be set at at least 70% of the minimum wage to protect vulnerable citizens.
Meanwhile, in Kosovo, KEDS and KOSTT have announced scheduled electricity outages in various regions, including Mitrovica and Pristina, to facilitate essential maintenance and system security works.
