North Macedonia energy minister outlines solar and grid expansion plans
At the fifth Annual Solar Conference organized by Solar Macedonia, Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Božinovska stated that solar energy has become a present reality for the country's energy sector.
Božinovska emphasized that the next phase of development must prioritize order, planning, and a robust grid. She noted that renewable capacity cannot be built faster than the grid can safely accommodate. To address this, the Ministry is working on digitizing and strengthening transmission and distribution networks, alongside developing battery storage solutions.
New regulatory frameworks and annual infrastructure plans are being implemented to create a predictable investment environment. These plans will determine where and when new capacities can be developed based on grid capabilities. Additionally, the Ministry is preparing for future technologies, including a comprehensive hydrogen study.
