North Macedonia accelerates green transition and public building renovation
The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources (MERMS) of North Macedonia is intensifying cooperation with international partners to accelerate the energy renovation of public buildings. Under the PIONEER-MK project and supported by the PEEB Cool program, a mission by the French Development Agency (AFD) facilitated meetings with representatives from the World Bank and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The collaboration aims to implement a reconstruction plan for state-level public sector buildings scheduled from November 2025 to November 2028. This initiative is designed to reduce energy consumption, lower costs, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions while creating sustainable public infrastructure.
Separately, at the TECHMECH 2026 symposium held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Skopje, officials discussed the link between the green transition and the labor market. Minister of Energy Sanja Božinovska emphasized that the transition should focus on creating a more efficient economy and high-quality jobs. The shift toward renewable energy and automation is driving a demand for new engineering profiles and specialized technical competencies.
