North Macedonia's non-banking financial assets reach 336.4 billion denars

The National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia reported that assets of non-banking financial institutions (NBFI) reached 336.4 billion denars in the second quarter of 2026. This represents a quarterly growth of 7.2 percent and an annual increase of 22.1 percent. Pension funds are the largest segment, accounting for 63.7 percent of NBFI assets, followed by insurance companies at 13.5 percent.

Growth in the NBFI sector was primarily driven by increased investments in equity and debt securities. Investment funds saw significant growth, rising 12.3 percent quarterly and 44.2 percent annually. While most sectors showed positive trends, financial companies recorded a quarterly decline of 1.1 percent.

Separately, the National Bank's Council noted that the domestic economy remains resilient despite external uncertainties. Economic activity showed signs of acceleration in the second quarter, supported by growth in construction, industrial production, and the hospitality sector. Inflation is currently on a slowing trajectory and remains within the Bank's forecasts. Foreign exchange reserves stood at 4,936.4 million euros at the end of June 2026.
