North Macedonia infrastructure: Audit reveals 0.12% construction spend on 1.3B euro projects

VMRO-DPMNE MP Aleksandar Veljanovski has called for a Public Prosecutor investigation following a State Audit Office report regarding the management of Corridors 8 and 10D. The infrastructure projects, spanning 108 kilometers with an estimated value of 1.3 billion euros, have faced significant scrutiny.

According to the audit, as of December 2023, only 0.12% of the total costs had been allocated to actual construction, indicating a major deviation from planned dynamics. The report also highlighted serious weaknesses in capital investment management and noted that the state paid millions in commissions for funds that remained unwithdrawn while projects faced delays.

Veljanovski demanded that the SDS and DUI parties account for the management of these funds and urged authorities to examine contracts, payments, and decision-making processes to determine responsibility for the delays and financial mismanagement.
