North Macedonia marks International Democracy Day
To mark International Democracy Day on September 15, the Parliamentary Institute of the Assembly of North Macedonia, in collaboration with the National Democratic Institute and Swiss parliamentary support, held an educational event for primary school students in Skopje.
During the event, Assembly Vice President Antonio Milošoski and Swiss Ambassador Christoph Sommer addressed students. Milošoski emphasized that democracy requires respecting majority decisions and political culture, while Ambassador Sommer highlighted the necessity of young people practicing democratic values in schools.
Separately, the youth organization HERA Mladi issued a statement regarding the modern challenges to democracy. They warned against 'algorithmocracy,' noting that digital algorithms can create parallel worlds and deepen social divisions. The organization called for increased substantive youth participation in policy-making and education that fosters critical thinking.
