North Macedonia prepares regulations and incentives for electric vehicles

North Macedonia is developing a new regulatory framework and specific incentive measures to promote electric mobility across the country. A multi-ministerial team, including representatives from the ministries of transport, energy, and economy, is working alongside the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to draft these rules.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski announced that a meeting with industry stakeholders will be held in mid-November to discuss market needs and optimal solutions. The initiative is part of the government's green transition strategy, aimed at addressing fuel price volatility and vehicle aging, noting that the average vehicle age in North Macedonia is currently 20 years.

As a pilot project for this transition, a German consultancy firm has completed a study for the new Skopje–Blace highway, which the government intends to develop as a fully electric, green corridor. Construction on this highway began two months ago.
