North Macedonia prioritizes strategic highway and rail infrastructure

North Macedonia is prioritizing the modernization of European Corridors 8 and 10 to improve regional connectivity. Speaking at a global event in Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Nikolloski detailed significant investments in highway and railway infrastructure.

For Corridor 8, the first section of the highway is complete, with the second section expected to begin next year through cooperation with the European Union and the European Investment Bank. The railway component of Corridor 8 is divided into three sections; the second is currently under construction with a target completion date by the end of 2028. A procurement process has also begun for the third, most complex section, which involves extensive tunneling and bridge work.

Regarding Corridor 10, work has commenced on a high-speed railway. Additionally, North Macedonia is working with neighboring countries to expand border crossings and is collaborating with Bulgaria on a joint intergovernmental agreement to construct a cross-border tunnel.
