North Macedonia pushes ahead with Greece gas interconnector, set for 2025 completion

The gas pipeline interconnector between North Macedonia and Greece has entered an accelerated construction phase. The Ministry for Energy, Mining and Raw Materials, led by Minister Sanja Bozhinovska, coordinated with the Greek operator DESFA and the Macedonian gas company NOGAS to speed up works.

So far 95% of the land expropriation is finished and about 85% of the route cleared. A total of 34 km of pipe has been supplied, with 21 km already positioned along the line. Welds covering 13.7 km have been completed, surpassing 800 successful welds, and more than 6,300 m of pipe is buried. Six of the seven planned under‑road crossings are in place and roughly 65% of the ancillary block‑stations are ready. New automatic welding machines have been deployed to further hasten progress.

Officials said the project, described as a strategic investment for energy security and economic stability, is expected to be completed within the next year, providing North Macedonia with additional natural‑gas supply sources, greater diversification and stronger integration with regional and European energy networks.
