North Macedonia reports 14 outdoor fires including active blaze in Borino

North Macedonia has experienced a surge in outdoor fires, with the Crisis Management Center reporting 14 registered fires as of the evening of September 14. Of these, 12 have been extinguished and one is under control, while an active fire remains near the village of Borino in the Kruševo region, affecting low vegetation.

Earlier reports indicated 12 fires within a 24-hour period. One fire near Belica, specifically in the Kajorec area, spread through mixed forests toward the Jasen region and was placed under control. Other incidents involving low vegetation and waste were reported in locations including Teatrce, Sveti Nikole, Veles, Kumanovo, Skopje, Bitola, and Dolneni.

While the number of extinguished fires is a key metric for intervention success, experts note that statistics alone do not fully convey the severity of the situation. A comprehensive assessment requires data on the total area affected, terrain accessibility, proximity to infrastructure, and the resources deployed.
