North Macedonia to receive first electric buses in January 2027
North Macedonia is set to receive its first electric buses in January 2027. The procurement involves 150 buses intended to reduce air pollution in Skopje and various other municipalities.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikolloski stated that while Skopje has a high demand, the distribution will also include several other municipalities such as Kumanovo, Stip, Gevgelija, Kavadari, Prilep, Manastir, Ohrid, Gostivar, and Tetova. Nikolloski noted that although Skopje requested 250 buses, current budgetary constraints have shaped the current allocation.
Addressing concerns from civil society organizations regarding the public procurement process, Nikolloski dismissed comparisons made by critics as attempts at manipulation, asserting that the comparisons do not involve the same types of vehicles.
