North Macedonian municipalities record 356 million euros in public procurement

In 2025, eighty municipalities and the City of Skopje signed public procurement contracts totaling approximately 356 million euros (21.9 billion denars). According to research by the Center for Civil Communications, this represents a record high, nearly doubling the combined value of contracts from the previous two years.

Tetovo Municipality led the country with 22.5 million euros in contracts, marking a significant increase of 20.5 million euros compared to the previous year. Other high-ranking municipalities include Gazi Baba (16.6 million euros), Stip and Aerodrom (approximately 14.2 million euros each), and Kumanovo (13.3 million euros).

The City of Skopje saw a decline in its ranking, falling from sixth place in 2024 to 14th in 2025, with contracts valued at roughly 8.5 million euros. However, the combined procurement value for Skopje and its ten surrounding municipalities remains significant, accounting for nearly 29 percent of the national total.

Center for Civil Communications President German Filkov noted that the figure represents the value of signed contracts rather than total cash paid out during the year. He clarified that many of these are multi-year obligations that will be paid from future budgets, noting that while some projects were supported by Hungarian loans, municipalities remain committed to payments over the coming years.
