North Macedonia's Kërçovë‑Ohër Highway Section to Open in Coming Months
Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikolloski announced that the most difficult 10‑kilometre stretch of the Kërçovë‑Ohër highway – which includes galleries, bridges, viaducts and the country's longest tunnel (two tubes of 2 km and 2.1 km) – is expected to be opened to traffic in the next few months. He said the full completion and commissioning of the entire highway is targeted for May of next year.
Nikolloski emphasized that about 80 % of the ministry’s time and energy is devoted to this project, describing it as the biggest challenge for the Ministry of Transport. He linked the highway to broader capital‑investment programmes, noting that ongoing road, rail corridor (Corridor 8 and preparations for Corridor 10) and airport projects together drive double‑digit growth in the construction sector.
"I expect the most difficult 10‑kilometre stretch to be opened in the coming months," he said, adding that the results of the intensive work are already becoming visible.
