North Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire councils finish key road upgrades

North Northamptonshire Council officially opened the rebuilt White Mills Bridge near Earls Barton. The new structure, delivered by Kier Infrastructure and partners, replaces the previous bridge that could not carry required loads. Designed for a 120‑year lifespan, the bridge includes upgraded traffic signal sensors, resurfaced approaches, repaired masonry and enhanced safety features. Funding came from the Department for Transport’s Local Transport Grant.

Nottinghamshire County Council announced its July highway maintenance programme, targeting more than 50 roads for resurfacing or patch repairs and over 70 roads for a summer surface‑dressing scheme. The works cover major routes such as the A57, A60, A606, A614, A617, A38, A612 and A610, and involve applying stone chippings and bitumen to protect against water damage and potholes. The programme aims to improve road conditions for residents and motorists across the county.
