North Shore mosquito spraying scheduled to combat West Nile virus

The Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District will conduct aerial ultra-low volume anti-mosquito spraying in North Shore, California, starting Thursday. The treatments are scheduled to take place between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. from Thursday through Sunday.

The operation targets specific areas including Buchanan Street, 70th Avenue, Wheeler Street, and 74th Avenue. According to operations manager Greg Alvarado, the treatment is a direct response to surveillance data showing elevated levels of West Nile virus activity. The goal is to reduce mosquito populations to mitigate the risk of disease transmission.

District officials noted that while most people infected with West Nile virus do not develop symptoms, some may experience serious illness, and there is currently no human vaccine. Residents are advised to use EPA-registered insect repellents, wear protective clothing, ensure window screens are intact, and eliminate standing water around their properties.
