West Nile virus mosquito control efforts in the US

Overview

Public health officials across several U.S. states have initiated mosquito control and spraying operations following the detection of West Nile virus in mosquito populations.

In mid-August, New Jersey authorities scheduled treatments in Warren and Monmouth counties after identifying the virus in mosquito samples, including those that had bitten humans. Concurrently, the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District announced aerial spraying in North Shore, California, to address elevated levels of West Nile virus activity.

By early September, mosquito control efforts expanded to include western Umatilla County, Oregon, where aerial and truck-mounted spraying was planned following positive virus detections in several areas. Additionally, Camden County, New Jersey, scheduled ultra-low-volume spraying across multiple municipalities to mitigate health risks.
