North Sumatra accelerates housing and disaster recovery programs

The North Sumatra provincial government is accelerating two major housing initiatives aimed at improving living conditions and supporting disaster recovery.

Under the Bantuan Stimulan Perumahan Swadaya (BSPS) program managed by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), North Sumatra has been allocated 15,011 home renovation units for 2026. This represents a 657 percent increase from the 1,982 units allocated in 2025. The allocation includes 3,411 units in settlement areas, 4,505 in urban areas, and 7,065 in rural areas. Local officials are coordinating with district and city governments to ensure these resources reach low-income communities effectively.

Simultaneously, the government is working to complete 919 permanent housing units (huntap) for disaster-affected residents in North Sumatra by December 31, 2026. This project is part of a larger national effort to build 7,952 permanent units across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. In North Sumatra, construction has moved from land clearing to land maturation, with contractors already appointed to meet the year-end deadline.
