North Sumatra fuel distribution governance reviewed after BBM supply disruptions

The Competition Commission’s North Sumatra office (KPPU) participated in a hearing with the provincial DPRD’s Commission B to examine recent disruptions in fuel (BBM) distribution across several areas of North Sumatra. KPPU Chair Ridho Pamungkas stated that the interruptions were not caused by fuel shortages but by logistical problems moving fuel from terminals to stations, emphasizing the need for a resilient supply chain.

The commission highlighted risks of relying on a single transport provider and praised Pertamina Patra Niaga’s quick response, while recommending a systematic evaluation of transport services, stronger business continuity and contingency plans, improved risk management, and periodic provider reviews. Public communication was also urged to prevent panic buying. No violation of the 1999 competition law was identified at this stage.
