Northeast Frontier Railway accelerates Tripura-Bangladesh rail link

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials are accelerating work on the Agartala-Akhaura railway line to enable passenger train services between Tripura, India, and Bangladesh. The 12.24 km project includes 5.46 km of track in India and 6.78 km in Bangladesh, connecting via an international immigration station at Nischintapur in western Tripura.

Ashish Bansal, NFR General Manager (Construction), recently conducted inspections from Badarpur through Agartala to Sabroom to review infrastructure, including tracks and bridges. He instructed officials to prioritize safety, quality, and timely completion of pending tasks. The project is intended to strengthen regional connectivity and support India’s Act East Policy.
