Northeast Frontier Railway reports growth and safety upgrades in 2026
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reported significant progress in safety, modernization, and connectivity during 2026. General Manager Chetan Kumar Srivastava stated that the railway is operating under the principle of ‘100 percent safety, zero risk’ to ensure passenger and operational security.
Key technical upgrades include the implementation of the Kavach system in over 130 electric locomotives, the installation of 30 hot box detectors, and three automatic train examination systems across the zone. Efforts to improve safety also involve modernizing signaling systems and eliminating level crossing gates.
In terms of connectivity, NFR introduced 14 pairs of new train services, including the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express from Kamakhya and a new MEMU service between Agartala and Karimganj. Financially, NFR recorded an 8 percent increase in operating income between April and July, totaling 2,744 crore rupees, while ticket checking revenue rose by 37 percent.
