Northeast Frontier Railway restores flood‑damaged Simaluguri line, runs diesel trains

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has repaired railway tracks and bridges damaged by recent floods in Simaluguri and surrounding areas of Sivasagar district, Assam, under the Tinsukia Division. General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava inspected the restored section and noted that many flood‑affected residents, including children and livestock, were sheltering on or near the tracks.

To avoid the risk of electrocution, NFR decided to operate only diesel‑locomotive trains on the restored segment while conditions normalize. Local services such as the Nagaland Express, Guwahati‑Ledo Intercity, Rangiya‑Ledo Intercity, Lumding‑Tinsukia DEMU and Tinsukia‑Jorhat passenger are running via Moranhat. Long‑distance trains continue on a diverted route via North Lakhimpur‑Rangapara North‑Rangiya, and special trains are being run to maintain connectivity to Upper Assam. Full restoration, including electric traction, will be considered once displaced residents can return home.
