Northeast Frontier Railway restores New Harangajao tracks

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is working to restore Line No. 2 at the New Harangajao railway station, which has been affected by track settlement and lateral shifting since July 20. The instability is attributed to changes in natural watercourses and local drainage patterns, causing heavy water flow from an upstream hillside to accumulate beneath the ground.

Restoration efforts involve approximately 500 personnel and specialized machinery, including excavators, hydraulic piling rigs, and pneumatic drills, to stabilize the infrastructure and manage drainage. NFR expects to restore Line No. 2 by September 5, 2026, while Line No. 1 is projected to be restored by the end of September 2026.

In the interim, train operations are restricted to Line No. 3 under enhanced safety measures. This has led to service disruptions in the Lumding–Badarpur Hill Section, including the cancellation of the Guwahati–Dullabcherra and Guwahati–Silchar Express services on September 2 and 3, respectively. Other services, such as the Narangi–Agartala and Silchar–Charlapalli Express, have been rescheduled.
