Northeast India to host space technology workshop in Guwahati

The Space Industry Association of India (SIA-India), in partnership with the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), will host the Northeast India Space Workshop 2026 in Guwahati on August 26–27. The event, themed ‘Leveraging Space Technology: Regional Transformation to Global Reach,’ aims to transition Northeast India from a consumer of space technology to a developer, testing ground, and commercial gateway for the Global South and Southeast Asia.

Over 200 stakeholders from government, defense, telecommunications, academia, and international organizations are expected to attend. The workshop highlights the region's strategic importance, noting its 5,484 km of international borders and challenging terrain, which create high demand for satellite communications, Earth observation, and geospatial intelligence.

The workshop occurs amid rapid growth in India’s private space sector. Since 2021, Indian SpaceTech startups have raised approximately US$871 million across 241 funding rounds. By July 2026, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) had issued 105 authorizations to private entities.
