Northeast India transport resumes on Imphal–Dimapur–Guwahati route

Public transport services on the Imphal–Dimapur–Guwahati route have resumed after a nearly three-year hiatus. The resumption follows government efforts to restore normalcy in Manipur following a period of crisis. On the first day of service, 125 passengers traveled via two buses and five wingers.

In the broader context of Northeast India connectivity, there are ongoing calls to improve regional infrastructure. Stakeholders have emphasized that the railway network connecting Dimapur, Guwahati, and Tinsukia serves as a vital lifeline for residents of Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Mizoram. These services provide essential access to healthcare, education, and employment. However, concerns remain regarding the quality of existing rail services, including issues with coach maintenance and the adequacy of train frequency.
